Maserati Specialists in Mission Viejo, CA
Factory-Trained Maserati Experience, Four Days a Week
Quick Takeaways
- F136 timing: the Ferrari-built 4.2 and 4.7 V8 needs its chain tensioners and variators checked, not assumed.
- Nettuno oil: the MC20 and Grecale Trofeo V6 runs pre-chamber ignition, so oil grade is not optional.
- Records: a dated, itemized history is worth real money the day you sell.
- Open Monday to Thursday: 7 to 6, four days, closed Friday through Sunday.
Maserati owners hear two things constantly: the cars are fragile, and nobody local can fix them. That first one is a maintenance story. Skipped services, cheap parts. The second we can answer flatly — one of our master technicians is factory-trained on Maserati, and that training is why a cold-start rattle on an F136 V8 gets diagnosed instead of guessed at. Since 2010 we have serviced exotics in Mission Viejo, with OEM parts and a 2-year/24,000-mile warranty standing behind every job we hand back.

The F136 V8 Rewards Owners Who Watch the Timing Chain
Ferrari built the 4.2 and 4.7-liter V8 in the GranTurismo and the previous Quattroporte, and it is a strong engine with one famous habit: the chain tensioners and cam variators go noisy with age. It rattles cold, then quiets.
A second or two of noise is easy to talk yourself out of, especially on a weekend car that always settles down by the end of the street. Left alone, a worn tensioner becomes chain slap and bent valves. Fix it early. Catching it early is the difference between a timing job and an engine job. We check tensioners at every service.
The Nettuno V6 Is a Different Engine Under the Same Badge
Nettuno changed the ownership rules. The 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 in the MC20 and Grecale Trofeo borrowed pre-chamber combustion from Formula 1, and the MC20 runs a dry sump on top of that.
It fires two spark plugs per cylinder, so a misfire code can point at a pre-chamber plug rather than the obvious one, and chasing that without the right software becomes a parts-cannon exercise. Oil grade matters here. No exceptions. Use the specification in the manual and change it on time, every time.

The ZF Eight-Speed and Skyhook Dampers Wear Where You Drive
Both age by driving pattern, not by odometer reading. New U.S. light-duty vehicles averaged 7.0 transmission gears in model year 2024, per the EPA’s Automotive Trends Report. Your Ghibli or Levante has eight, and every one of those shifts cycles a clutch pack in fluid that does not last forever, whatever the sales brochure implied.
Short stop-and-go trips on Marguerite Parkway are harder on that gearbox than a clean run out to Santiago Canyon Road, which is the opposite of what most owners assume. And Skyhook’s adaptive dampers leak at the seals eventually, so one soft corner chews the inside edge of a tire. Look at the tires.
A Documented Service History Is Worth Money at Resale
Nothing protects a Maserati’s value like a complete file of dated, itemized invoices. Buyers notice. Used-exotic shoppers discount hard for anything unknown, and “it was serviced somewhere” reads as a gamble they would rather take on someone else’s car.
Keep the receipts and the part numbers, and check your VIN for open recalls before you list it: in 2024, NHTSA processed 1,073 recalls covering more than 35 million vehicles and items of equipment. Our invoices name every part and fluid we fit.
Frequently Asked Questions
In what ways does regular maintenance help raise the resale value of my Maserati?
Paperwork is the difference. Dated invoices showing oil changed on interval, brake fluid replaced and timing components inspected answer the two questions every used-Maserati buyer asks before making an offer. Deferred work surfaces when their inspector looks the car over, and then it becomes a discount. Buyers pay for a file that leaves nothing to guess at.
What is the recommended Maserati maintenance schedule?
Annual service, with mileage checkpoints. For most cars around here the year arrives long before the miles do. Plan oil and filter every year, brake fluid every two, and plugs and belts at the intervals printed in your manual. On an F136-engined GranTurismo or Quattroporte, add a timing-component inspection to that yearly visit.
Why does my GranTurismo rattle for a second on a cold start?
Tensioners, most likely. The timing chain tensioners bleed down while the car sits, and worn cam variators add to the noise until oil pressure comes up. A rattle that clears in a second or two is the early, cheap stage. If it lasts several seconds or returns warm, stop driving the car — chain slap on an F136 bends valves.
Which Maserati models do you work on?
Ghibli, Quattroporte, Levante, GranTurismo, GranCabrio, Grecale and MC20. The split that matters is the engine rather than the badge: the Ferrari-built V8s, the twin-turbo V6s and Nettuno all have their own fluid specifications and diagnostic routines. Tell us the model year and we will tell you what your car is due for.
How long should tires last on a Ghibli or Levante?
Less time than you would like. On the freeway-and-canyon mix people drive here, a rear set on a Ghibli often gives up before 20,000 miles, and hard use halves that. Check the date code as well as the tread, because a five-year-old tire is finished regardless of depth. Inside-edge wear on one corner is a suspension problem.
Can I drop my Maserati off on a Friday?
No — we are closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The shop runs Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, which is a genuine four-day week and worth planning around. A Monday or Tuesday drop-off gives parts the best chance of arriving while your car is still here. Thursday afternoon means it waits for Monday.
